"When You Are Looking For An Evangelist..."

Looking Up - Home

Pastor, when you are looking for an evangelist you want a man who will love your people, respect your pulpit, preach the Word, and encourage and exhort your people to restore broken relationships and renew their love for the Lord and their commitment to God’s work. You want a man of integrity who can be trusted to handle finances sensitively and professionally, who will give an invitation without manipulation, and who will leave you with no surprises or regrets. You want an evangelist who will leave your church stronger and healthier than when he came. You want an evangelist who will be a friend to the pastor and be sensitive to his heart and heartache. You want an evangelist that you and the people will want to come back.

Choosing An Evangelist For Revival...

One of the most important decisions a pastor makes when planning for revival is who to invite. Please permit me to share the following thoughts regarding who you may want to invite.

1. Pray about who you should invite. The Lord will guide you to someone.

2. Consider the needs of your church. Some evangelists are harvesters, others are revivalists, and others are encouragers/exhorters.

3. Invite someone with a sterling reputation. Find out where an evangelist has been and call the pastor for a recommendation. Don’t be afraid to ask someone you do not know personally if you have received excellent recommendations from other pastors.

4. Prayerfully consider using a vocational evangelist. There are many excellent evangelists. If the Lord has called these servants (us) into full time vocational evangelism the He wants His churches to use them. The vast majority of evangelists will be a great blessing to your church.
